Where is Iowa?
Iowa is located in the heart of the Midwest! Iowa is positioned south of Minnesota, north of Missouri, West of Illinois and East of Nebraska. Both Interstate 80 and Interstate 35 run through Iowa and actually meet in the Greater Des Moines area.

What is the Iowa Meetings Association (IMA)?
The Iowa Meetings Association is a membership organization of any Iowa entity interested in the Iowa meetings and convention market organized for the collective marketing of Iowa as a meeting destination, and for providing education and networking opportunities for its members in order to strengthen Iowa’s economy through the meetings and convention market.
Who can join?
Any Iowa entity interested in the meetings/convention market in Iowa is eligible to join the Association under one membership category – Full or Associate member. The Board of Directors shall have the power to reject any membership application if such rejection is deemed by the Board to be in the best interest of the association.
What is the difference between a full and an associate member?
- Full Membership – available only to any Iowa entity, which pays “Full Membership” dues as set by the Executive Council. Full members shall be entitled to:
- One vote
- Membership listing in any appropriate publication printed by the association
- Leads from all tradeshows and inquiries
- Eligible to staff the IMA booth at tradeshows
- Eligible to attend general membership meetings
- Eligible to serve on IMA committees
- Eligible to serve on the Board of Directors
- Receive the IMA newsletter
- Referrals
- Associate Member – available to additional members/staff of the Full Member. “Associate Membership” dues as set by the Executive Council. Associate Members shall be entitled to:
- Vote only by a proxy from a Full Member
- Membership listing in any appropriate publication printed by the association
- Leads from all tradeshows and inquiries
- Eligible to staff the IMA booth at tradeshows
- Eligible to attend general membership meetings
- Eligible to serve on IMA committees

What is the annual dues amount?
Dues for membership in IMA are $250 per year for Full members and $100 per Associate member. Membership is from January through December and dues are sent out in October.
When does IMA meet and where are the meetings held?
IMA general membership meetings are held quarterly in central Iowa. Typically, the membership meets in January, April, July and October. October is when the Annual Membership meeting is held, typically in conjunction with the Iowa Tourism Conference.
Can planners become members?
Since IMA’s focus is on attracting planners to meet in the state of Iowa, the benefits to membership in IMA are geared toward suppliers.
